Having lived in East Tennessee all my life, I am no
stranger to the natural beauty of the world. I have grown up next to
mountains and lakes and am blessed to have had opportunities to go out and
experience what nature has to offer. Whenever I venture into the local
park, I always take my camera with me, in the hopes of capturing the
perfect reference photo for a painting. While these photos are rarities, I
am usually able to piece a painting together from several different
photos. My creative process involves more than just looking at one of
these photos and copying every detail I can see. In order for me to begin
a painting, I must first have a reason to paint it. My reason may be as
simple as just wanting to paint a subject, or it may be that I want to
convey a particular message in a painting. My artworks are generally of
the natural world, with a specific focus on flowers and birds. I choose to
paint these two subjects most frequently because I feel that they, with
their many color variations, habitats, and life cycles, represent the
diversity of the planet better than any other living things.
