My mom literally dragged me to Cades Cove one weekend a
couple of summers ago. I was really quite angry with her because of it,
but once I began to see all the wonderful scenery and wildlife (upon
putting down my Harry Potter book), my anger quickly gave way to awe. The
land in this area is absolutely spectacular and relatively untouched by
time. One of the most interesting things I saw there was the subject of
this painting. It didn't look like any wildflower I had ever seen and made
me wonder if it really was one at all. I showed some of the pictures to my
biology teacher in high school, and she was able to identify it as a
gladiola. She also explained to me that it had probably come from one of
the old homesteads in that area. She said that the houses were gone but
these flowers remained behind. There - a history, biology, and art lesson
all rolled into one painting! |
